For my learning project for the Educational Technology and Media 300 course, I chose to learn how to cook. Specifically, I want to learn how to cook different meals for supper, as I am pretty clueless as of right now!
Currently, I mostly just eat caesar salads or a (very dry and bland) chicken breast. For a side, I typically don’t “cook” anything, rather just chop up some vegetables. I do not enjoy cooking at all. I find it very boring, and I get very frustrated when what I cook does not end up appetizing in the slightest. I have a gluten intolerance, so that can sometimes feel limiting. I also struggle with seasoning my food. I usually end up under or over seasoning it. With meat, it often turns out really dry too. These are all parts of cooking that I would like to work on over the next few weeks.
My main goal for this project is to hopefully learn a few recipes that I enjoy cooking or at the very least, enjoy eating. I have this assumption that if I enjoy cooking or enjoy what I cook, I will be more likely to actually eat supper. As of right now, I usually only eat meals in the morning and around noon. I would like to get stronger at the gym this year, so it is important to me that I regularly eat nutritious and high-protein meals for supper.
Over the next 12 weeks, I will try recipes that I find on websites such as Pinterest, Food Network, One Dish Kitchen, and more. I also have saved a collection of follow-along recipes on TikTok and Instagram. Another platform I think I will find useful for this project is YouTube.
The Internet is a fantastic tool for learning how to cook and I am optimistic about this new journey! I’ve seen a new trend of cooking different kinds of chicken in air fryers, so I ordered the Drew Berrymore 6 Quart Touchscreen Air Fryer). Once I’ve used it a few times, I will post a review. I can’t wait to share these recipes with you all and share what I learn throughout the process!
Chayse,
I’ve been digging back to some of the first posts that were made after our course started and it caught my attention that you’re focusing on cooking.
I’m a mom of three teenagers and honestly, I cook because we need to eat, not because I enjoy it. I would bake all day, every day, if I could, but cooking comes out of necessity. I feel like since I was young and kid-free I have learned a lot and gotten a lot braver when it comes to cooking. I have one very picky eater and one sort-of picky eater in my house, but for the most part everyone eats something that I’ve prepared.
Over the last handful of years I…
Hey Chayse,
I really excited to see you on your learning journey! I can completely relate to you on not loving to cook. Cooking is something that I am not really good at and I find it hard to find a recipe that I feel confortable making. Just like anything, I am sure that if you put your mind to it you are going to crush it. I can't wait to see you progress over the semester. Wishing you all the best in your learning!
Take care.

Hey Chayse! I love your topic for your learning project. I was thinking about doing something similar, but instead of the focus being on high protein meals I wanted to learn to meal prep. I really do not liking cooking, but I also get bored with the simple meals. I think that you made a great choice buying an air fryer. Everyone I talk to says that they are the best thing ever. The only complaint that I have heard is that they can be annoying to clean, but I have heard that you can buy silicone inserts so that you only have to clean the insert instead of the whole machine. Can I ask why you chose that specific…
Hi Chayse,
I had recently found myself diving into new recipes of high protein foods I like to eat. A main source I have found good recipes is Instagram. I follow some certain accounts that use mainly healthy foods and videos of how they made it while also stating the nutrition facts. I also use an air fryer daily, and I can confidently say that chicken and pork tastes waaaay better in the air fryer. Can't wait to try some of the recipes you use myself.
