Hello!

About Me...

I am in my second year of the secondary education program at the University of Regina. I am majoring in Health Studies and minoring in Biology.

I hope to make my future classroom a safe space and create an environment that ensures all students are able to learn in ways to suit them!

I was born and raised in the small town of Watson, Saskatchewan, before leaving at 16 to pursue a Nutrition degree at the University of Saskatchewan.

After one year of studying and meeting many people who were in the education program, I knew education was the path I needed to follow. I transferred to the University of Regina (known for its great education program!), and I can safely say that it was the best decision I have ever made.

I have found my passion and could not imagine myself doing anything else. I have met so many amazing people in this program who share the same passion, and I am grateful for every experience I have had in this journey so far.

About Me As An Educator

Here are a few teaching practices that are important to me!

I am a big advocate for helping students build skills that will help them throughout high school and their adult lives. I am also a supporter of ensuring that all students are able to learn and being able to provide resources for them to enrich their education.

Flexible Seating

I am a big supporter of flexible seating. I think it's beneficial for students to be able to fidget and move without distracting themselves or other students. I will be teaching high school students, and I believe flexible seating can sometimes be overlooked for high schoolers, but I think it's important for ALL students to have these kinds of resources.

Skill-Based Projects

As a future high school teacher, I think it's essential to incorporate skill-building in lesson plans, as high school should prepare students for life after graduation. Some examples of skills I think should be prioritized are in communication, time management, problem-solving, creative and critical thinking, self-management, proactiveness, etc.

Review Sessions

I think a common misconception among secondary schools is that students come knowing how to study. This is a skill that is taught. There are many ways for students to study and I believe teachers should pave the way and show them efficient ways of studying and help prepare them for assessments. Review Sessions are one way to cover unit material and allow time and space to cover more difficult material with students.

Assignment Accommodations

I believe in equity for students. I think it is crucial for teachers to work their lessons and assessments around their students. As well as, meeting all students needs and providing support and accommodations that students may need to succeed. Being inclusive in the classroom means that all students receive a quality education without being excluded or discriminated against.
